Amish Friendship Bread - Spice Bread

There are a bazillion things you can do with Amish friendship bread starter. It's basically fermented milk, sugar, and flour. If you need starter, you can make your own using a recipe. Give some to friends! Populate the world with bread!

This recipe is for a nice, sweet loaf of spice bread. You can add apples, raisins, currants, nuts, or whatever else strikes your fancy.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Amish Friendship Bread starter (Fred)
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Fred Bread

Grease 2 9x5 loaf pans, and preheat the oven to 350.

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, and stir until well mixed. Pour into loaf pans. Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
