Baked fruit lets you pretend you're eating healthy, right?
Ingredients
- 6 Golden Delicious apples (or other good baking apple)
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Dude, I'm So Baked
Core the apples with a melon baller or teaspoon, making a hole in the middle of the
apple. Stand them up in a buttered baking dish. Set aside.
In a small saucepan, combine the honey and butter and heat until blended. Remove from
the stove and stir in vanilla. Fill the apples with the honey mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until tender.
While they're baking, pour 1 cup of water into a heavy saucepan. Pour sugar into the center of the pot, keeping sugar from sides of the pan. Bring to boil on high. Continue boiling until the syrup thickens and turns straw colored, about 15 minutes.
In a separate pan, heat the cream to simmer over medium. Remove the sugar mixture from the stove, slowly whisk in the hot cream until smooth. Whisk in the butter, stir in the nuts. To serve, place a baked apple on a plate, top with warm caramel sauce.
Notes and Hints and Stuff
- Kinda Boring, Innit?
No spices in this one, but there's no reason you couldn't add cinnamon, allspice,
nutmeg, or even cloves to the first mixture, which is baked in the apples.
