Candies, Cookies, and Confections, Oh My!
|
|
This section is getting less popular as my friends age and worry more about their waistlines and HDL/LDL ratios...but it's still my favorite!
- Almond Roca: As good as the real thing!
- Amish Gingerbread Men: Was I Amish in a
past life? This is the second Amish recipe here...
- Apple Nut Chews: Like Applets with more flavor
and more chew.
- Apple Wontons: This is a Weight Watcher's Recipe,
so if you're watching the diet, try these!
- Baked Apples: Not real complicated, but
tasty.
- Baklava: Not to be confused with a balaclava.
- Bourbon Balls: Highly alcoholic little chocolate bombs.
- Buttermints: These work well for the
holidays, and they also make great wedding mints if you're so inclined.
- Caramels: You say carmel, I say caramel.
These are homemade, chewy and smooth.
- Chinese Crisps: Another recipe I dug out
of Gramma's recipe box.
- Chocolate Chip Cookies: My gramma's recipe.
- Chocolate Meringue Puffs: Fat free! Mmm!
- Cinnamon Glazed Almonds: Easy crunchy
nutty goodness. Snack food!
- Chocolate "McMullen" Cookies: Apparently from a remote family member, these have gooey marshmallow on top!
- Classic Shortbread: The classic Scottish treat. Variations for Chocolate, Lemon, and Orange Spice shortbread too!
- Coconut Tassies: Little chocolate tartlet
cups filled with what amounts to a gooier macaroon.
- Divinity: I've blown up four mixers trying to
make this stuff right. Hope springs eternal. My gramma's recipe.
- English Butter Tarts: No butter, but lots of raisins. The English are weird.
- Fantasy Fudge: The old recipe off the Marshmallow
Creme. It seems to have changed recently, but I like this one.
- Faux Frangos:
A little less waxy than the candies from The Bon Marche (or in years past,
from Frederick and Nelson).
- Fortune Cookies: Yummy. Nuff said.
- Fruit Pizza: Impress your guests. Relatively
healthy, too, if you use low fat cream cheese.
- Gummy Candies: Homemade gumdrop-esque candy. Make in holiday shapes and various flavors! Fun for kids who can use a stove.
- Honey Roasted Almonds: Also easy crunchy
nutty goodness.
- Lemon Cream Cheese Candy: Rich, lemony
little candy bites.
- Lemon Curd Tassies: These are tart and sweet and lovely to eat.
- Lilith's Sinful Truffles: You like chocolate?
This one's for you.
- Magic Cookie Bars:
Coconut, nuts, chocolate...what more can you want?
- Maid of Honor Cakes: Medievalesque. I
got it for my wedding, then didn't use it.
- Milk Chocolate Florentines: Very thin lacey
cookies with milk chocolate filling. Very Pepperidge Farmesque.
- Peanut Brittle: Better than most
storebought brands, honest! And you could use other nuts if you want.
- Pecan Tassies: Mini pecan pies. Almost goof-proof.
- Pumpkin Cookies: I like pumpkin a lot. This
is at least the third pumpkin recipe I've included. Hm.
- Soft Pumpkin Cookies: Another variation on the Pumpkin Theme.
- Raspberry Shortbread: Shortbread with a raspberry jam and sugar glaze topping.
- Russian Tea Cakes:
Lightly sweet cookies that can be made dairy-free.
- Shortbread Teacakes: It's not exactly the buttery
Scottish shortbread, but they're great with tea. Flaky, not too sweet.
- Shrewsbury Cakes: These cookies have a flavor
unlike any I've ever had. I like them a lot. Recipe from the 1600's.
- Stuffed Dates:
These are good if you like candied fruits or really like dates.
- Turtles: Sticky, ooey gooey chocolate and caramel nut candies.
