Cinnamon Rolls

I don't know where this recipe came from, beyond that my dear friend Greg sent it to me because I whined that I didn't get any of the ones he made.

Ingredients

  • 2 pkg dry yeast (fresh)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 5/14 cups flour
  • Cinnamon. Duh.

More Complicated than Poppin' Fresh

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Dissolve yeast in 1 cup warm water. Combine 3/4 cup hot water, sugar, salt, and butter. Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast mixture, egg, and 2 1/2 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Add enough more flour to make a soft dough.

People Who Knead People...

Turn dough out onto lightly floured board. Knead until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to grease all of the dough. Cover with a hot , wet towel. Let stand in a warm area until doubled in size.

Punch down. Divide into 2 parts. Roll out on floured board until 1/2" thick or so. Melt butter and coat the entire surface of the dough. Sprinkle with lots of sugar and cinnamon. Roll the dough into a tube. Cut into 1" circles.

Place the cut sections into a pan, leaving a small space between the pieces. Cover with a hot, wet towel and allow to raise in a warm area. Cook until golden brown. Remove from oven, cool a bit, drizzle on your favorite frosting.

Notes and Hints and Stuff

  • What does "golden brown" mean?
Frankly, I have no idea. That's how the recipe came to me.
