Faux Frangos

Is the plural of Frango "Frangoes" or "Frangos"? I guess the latter, the former looks too weird. In any event, these do contain uncooked eggs so if you're worried about that sort of thing, you might skip them. So far, no one's ever died or even complained.

Oh, and I got the recipe from Jason Pries' mom several years ago.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz chocolate chips
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 capful peppermint extract

How Unhealthy

Melt the chocolate, cool slightly. Add both eggs, beat well by hand until completely mixed. Add the margarine, keep mixing. Beat in the powdered sugar by hand, using a big spoon, until very thick. Stir in the peppermint.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper, allow to air dry in the refrigerator for several hours. Store in the refrigerator or freezer.

Notes and Hints and Stuff

  • Have a Pastry Bag?
If so, load the pastry bag with the chocolate mixture and pipe out stars onto the waxed paper, or remove the tip altogether and pipe out "kisses". They look a little more palatable when piped out.
  • Try Other Flavors
Frango Fans know that they come in all different flavors, not just mint. Try raspberry, orange, almond, coffee...whatever you like.
