Yet another Fry Bread recipe. I don't know where this one came from. Judging from the number of recipes, you'd think my favorite things in the world were fry bread and latkes...
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 - 1 1/4 cups water or milk
- oil for frying
Did The Native Americans Use Crisco?
Combine the dry ingredients. Make a well in the center, add one cup of water or milk. Mix until a soft dough forms. (More liquid may be needed.) Knead dough until smooth and firm.
Cover the dough, let rest 10 minutes.
Pinch off egg-sized pieces. Flatten to 5" around. In heavy skillet, heat 1 1/2 inch oil to 350. Fry 2-3 pieces at a time until golden brown, 5-7 minutes, turning once. Drain on paper towels, serve warm.
Notes and Hints and Stuff
- Water OR Milk?
Yeah, you can use either one. If you're lacto-free, use water. Milk makes a richer dough.
