Overnight Oatmeal

I love this stuff. It's fabu. If you don't like fruit in your oatmeal, see the bottom for the "just plain please" directions.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups dried fruit
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • brown sugar and cinnamon

Make Breakfast When You're Conscious

Pour the oats, water, and half and half into a slow cooker or crock pot. Add the fruit (I use apples and raisins, but you can use cranberries, or dates, or figs, or whatever). Shake in some cinnamon if you're so inclined.

Turn on low, put on the lid, and leave 8-9 hours. Stir, add brown sugar, and eat. Mmm.

Notes and Hints and Stuff

  • No, Don't Use Those
Steel cut oats have a texture similar to grapenuts when raw. You could leave regular rolled oats in a crock pot overnight, but this is too much liquid for those. And for heaven's sake, don't use instant. Bleah.
  • I'm A Picky Whiny Eater!
You're not required to use fruit. Cut the water back to about 2.5 cups if you don't use fruit. It's yummy plain, too.
