Tips and Tricks

Russian Tea Cakes

These are delicate little cookielike critters. Not too sweet, and can be made with margarine for a dairy-free treat. Thanks to the ever lovely Clarica for this recipe. I think it was from her Fanny Farmer cookbook, but I'm not sure.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup ground nuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • powdered sugar

Not Much To It

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

In a medium bowl, cream the butter. Add sugar, flour, nuts, and vanilla, mix thoroughly (your hands will probably work best). Shape into 2" balls. Roll in powdered sugar. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for about 30 minutes or until faintly brown. (They don't show much signs of being cooked).

Quickly roll in more powdered sugar while still warm, let cool.

Notes and Hints and Stuff

  • Margarine Is Okay
I won't say this often, but in this recipe, margarine is okay. It's also okay to use butter flavor Crisco.
