Costumers

  • Xcentricities
Ynhared makes corsets ranging from size 0 to size 24, and could possibly be convinced to make one even larger for a custom-fitting fee. I have a short leather corset and a longline silk brocade corset from her. The good news is, the boning is metal and sturdy. The bad news is, it's the thin kind (1/4") instead of the truly heroic 1/2" kind, so it may warp if you put too much pressure on it. The other bad news is that she hasn't yet figured out how to reinforce the tops and bottoms properly to keep the boning from coming out. The good news is, it's easily repaired when it pops out, it's just annoying.
  • One Wilde Knight
Custom corsets, even for the Luxury Sized! Made for you specifically, so a fitting is necessary. Located in Seattle, Washington. I have never bought a corset from this dealer, but Renee Byrd has, and you might ask her what she thinks of hers!

Costumes and Costume Pieces for Sale

  • eBay
You take a bit of a risk buying clothing without trying it on, but there are occasionally some nifty things for sale in the Plus Sizes auction on eBay. Search for "renaissance" or "medieval" if you're looking for garb, or search for goth, gothic, leather, velvet, lace, or whatever else you desire if you're going more for a "look".
  • Venus
More useful if you live in the Seattle area, but if you're dropping into Rustycon, Norwescon, or another Washington Convention, it's worth a visit! Sizes 14 and up, consignment and specialty clothing. They have some fantastic leather wear for larger sizes, and local costumer Julie Hoverson has done a line of Gothic clothing for the Luxury Sized which she sells through Venus.
  • Chivalry Sports
Lots of resources for Renaissance clothing, costumes, makeup, tents, toys, hairstyles, and more! Custom boots, a few patterns (look under their catalog under Books), and clothing in sizes up to 3X. Lots of accessories, tights up to 2X, pouches, tankard straps, weaponry, you name it. Neat site, check it out and kiss some money goodbye.

Accessories, Makeup, Underpinnings, Fashion Advice

    Makeup and Accessories
  • Display and Costume Supply
Located in Seattle, Washington. I highly recommend going there and browsing if you can. Lots of makeup, inexpensive accessories, and some costumes. Very little in their costumes works for Luxury Sizes, though, so don't expect too much. Some very very nice fabrics and trims and other doodads for sewing your own, though.

    Bras and Underclothing

  • Just My Size Fit Tips and Techniques
How to get a bra to fit you! I also highly recommend their pantyhose and bras and other products. Great fit, and good quality.
  • Decent Exposures
This company is located in Lake City, a suburb of Seattle, Washington. Along with other products, they make custom "un-bras", which are reputed to be very comfortable. They will take bras back for adjustments if they fit funny, too, which is a big bonus. Available for order via web, so you don't need to be in Seattle to take advantage of their services!

    Shoes and Footwear

  • Minnetonka Moccasins
Nifty footwear, pretty reasonable prices. Women's 4-10, men's 6-13. Not a huge selection of styles, but their Celtic/Renaissance boots are nice, and cheaper than virtually any place else I've seen. WARNING: I had a terrible experience ordering boots from them. The sales people are apparently untrained, and do not even know how they ship their orders to you. My boots were never delivered the first time I ordered them, and I was told they were "refused", despite the fact that no one could have done so, except perhaps my mailman. Eventually, after a call, boots did arrive, but they were too tight in the calves and too big in the feet, plus they'd sent the wrong color and size. Do not order if you're in a hurry.
  • By the Sword, Inc.
Basically the same shoes you find in the Museum Replicas catalog. A little spendy, mostly available only in male sizes 7-12, but "period".

Patterns and Sewing for the Luxury Sized

Finally, larger sized patterns are available for costumes! Even if you can't sew, you can find something you like and take the pattern to a seamstress (me, even!) who can then work with it to make something you love.
  • Simplicity
Currently Simplicity is only listing their costumes up to size 20, but they're fairly easy to modify from the largest size upwards. A few of these have been available in sizes larger than 20, but the catalog no longer lists them, so I'm not sure if they're unavailable now or if they're just listing their main sizes. Patterns are available from the online catalog, or from your local fabric store.
  • Butterick
Beautiful costumes, and available in sizes up to 32W! Not as large a selection in plus sizes as Simplicity, but they're learning. As an added bonus, their costumes are available in Women's Petite. Not all of us large ladies are also six feet tall! You can order directly from the catalog online, or from your local fabric store.
  • Patterns of Time
Interesting patterns for medieval and renaissance garb. A little difficult to locate what you need, but has some neat stuff. Also does custom sewing if you request it.
Sample Patterns: Pouches and Accessories for Medieval Costumes, Headwear and Hats, Circle Skirts and Chemise(up to 4x!), Bodices and Corsets
  • Kannik's Korner
Not a huge selection, but historically accurate patterns, available in up to size 3x, for men and women.
