Bodacious Babes Resource Page

"Plus-Sized." "Queen Sized." Or as Cartman would say, "I'm not fat, I'm big boned!"

If this describes you, you probably are aware of the special kind of pain that costuming, accessorizing, and finding clothing can be! What looks good on one large woman (or man!) may not look good on another, even if they are supposedly the same size.

I have put this page together as a resource for those of us who are in the Luxury Sized category...as one woman put it at Rustycon 17, those of us who have all the options and the Corinthian leather seats...the Cadillacs of bodies!

I intend for this to be an on-going, growing, changing resource catering specifically to the needs of the Large Sized Fan when attempting to build a costume or an outfit for a convention, SCA event, or Ren Faire. I am not a Fat Activist. I am not promoting any particular body size, just trying to give a hand to those of you facing the rather odd problems that come with costuming a large body. If you have a costumer, store, website, or any other resource that you think would benefit the Luxury Sized fan, please drop me a line at lilith @ beansidhe.com and I will see about adding it to this site.

Note: this site necessarily caters to the area in which I live, the Puget Sound region of Washington. However, many of the stores named have web sites, and of course the web references are without boundaries, so there should be useful information for everyone, with occasional geographic inconveniences.

Special Thanks!

I was inspired to create this page by a panel at Rustycon 17, called Bodacious Babes: Costuming for the Luxury Sized, run by the lovely and talented Becky Citrak.

As far as I am aware, the original idea locally (meaning the Washington/Oregon Con circuit) for a costuming panel for the Big and Beautiful Fan was the brainchild of Renee Byrd, who started the first of these kind of panels several years ago after realizing how appreciative people were when she wore something sexy!
Her page at Renee is Fat has all the Fat Positive, Fat Activist resources and essays you could possibly want...do yourself a luxury-sized favor and go check it out.
