Was This Really Necessary?

Nugget Wrapper Template and Instructions

These begin with two basic items:

  • Hershey's Nuggets (gold, silver, whatever)
  • Address Labels (from Staples, Office Depot, etc.)

For the address labels, the template is based on Avery 5160 White Laser Printer Rectangular return address labels, 1" x 2 5/8". Other brands of the same dimensions will also work. Ask for them at the office supply place of your choice, or go online to the office supply place of your choice and do a search for "5160". They come in boxes of 3000 labels (100 sheets) or in packets of 750 (25 sheets).

For the nuggets...um, go to the store. Candy aisle. They come in bags of around 100 each. They have plain, or with nuts, sometimes they have special ones too. I just bought some plain and some with almonds, because plain had silver wrappers and almonds had gold ones.

The template can be downloaded here. Right click on the link, choose "Save Target As", and save it to your computer somewhere. You can also just open it, then go up to "File" and down to "Save As". It's a Word Document.

    Template Usage Instructions

Printers and computers vary, so you may need to be patient and tweak the template a bit. If you're a computer whiz, these instructions are probably too basic for you. If you're really not, or have any trouble, drop me an email.

    Open the template, of course...

    Change the Groom's Name

  • Click on the template somewhere blank.
  • Hold down the CTRL key, then click F. (Control-F).
  • In the popup that comes up, choose the tab that says "Replace".
  • In the box by Find what: type "Groom" (without the quotes).
  • In the box by Replace with: type your groom's first name.
  • Click "Replace All" at the bottom.

    Change the Bride's Name

  • Hold down the CTRL key, then click F. (Control-F).
  • In the popup that comes up, choose the tab that says "Replace".
  • In the box by Find what: type "Bride" (without the quotes).
  • In the box by Replace with: type the bride's first name.
  • Click "Replace All" at the bottom.

Change the Month, Day, and Year

  • Hold down the CTRL key, then click F. (Control-F).
  • In the popup that comes up, choose the tab that says "Replace".
  • In the box by Find what: type "Month Day, Year" (without the quotes). Type this exactly, since that's how I put it into the template.
  • In the box by Replace with: type your wedding date. Example: November 22, 2003
  • Click "Replace All" at the bottom.

    Change the Saying (optional)

  • Click on the template somewhere blank.
  • Hold down the CTRL key, then click F. (Control-F).
  • In the popup that comes up, choose the tab that says "Replace".
  • In the box by Find what: type "Happily Ever After..." (without the quotes). Type this exactly, since it's what I put into the template.
  • In the box by Replace with: type another short saying of choice. Examples: Thanks for coming! or "Peace and Long Life!"
  • Click "Replace All" at the bottom.

    Change the Picture
This one will be somewhat trickier. In this template, each picture will have to be replaced individually. The easiest thing to do is to simply disregard all the pictures I have placed there and insert new ones.

  • Click once on one picture, hit "delete".
  • Repeat until all pictures are gone.
  • If you don't have a drawing bar at the bottom of your screen, go to View, Toolbars, and make sure there's a check by Drawing.
  • On the Drawing toolbar, click the icon that looks like a cartoon face. This will pull up the clipart insert dialogue.
  • Choose the clipart you want.
  • Resize the clipart to fit, and rotate to fit. (There's a rotation tool on the Drawing bar, or you might have to rotate it in another program such as Paint. If you need help rotating a clip, find a teenager to ask, or drop me a line.)
  • Place the graphic where you want it.
  • If you have trouble with the words shifting, open Word's helpfils, type in "text wrap around graphic", and choose the subject "text isn't wrapping around my graphic" for the instructions on how to get it to do so.
  • You can make and paste copies of the clipart once you get it sized. Right click on the clip, choose "copy." Then hit "Control-V" on your keyboard each time you want to paste a new copy.

    Change Font (optional)
I chose a font that allowed more letters than other fonts. It's Arial Narrow. If you want to change the font used, you can, but you'll have to change each phrase individually. A pain, but not impossible or even really difficult. Just highlight the words whose font you want to change, then go up to the font listing at the top and change it. Again, if you have trouble with that, ask a random teenager, or drop me a line.

Because printers vary, and because computer settings vary, print test pages. Print one page, then hold it up to the light in front of a sheet of your blank labels, to see if they line up. If they don't, fiddle with the template. Don't worry if you screw it up, you can always download a blank one and start over!

When you get it lined up, print ONE sheet of stickers, and try it on the nuggets. You may still need to tweak things.

If you get really confused and desperate, drop me a line and I can get some printed for you for cost of supplies and postage.
